Welcome to the Active Durham Website. Active Durham was established in 2008 and is the main network for developing sport and physical activity in the former district of Durham City. It provides links between leisure providers including the County Council leisure services, grassroots sports clubs, community organisations and the private sector. The main aim is to get more people active and healthier by ensuring that opportunities are available on the doorstep in a range of sports, exercise and physical activity.
The Active Durham network was launched with a 12 month campaign of free community based sport, exercise and physical activity which finished in July 2009. Focusing on beginners and those who need encouragement to take those first steps to fitness or to try something different, the 'year of the feel good factor' offered a range of activities from Cricket and Cycling to Skateboarding and volunteering.
It's a year of the feel good factor, there's something for everyone and it's coming to a venue near you!
Active Durham has produced a directory to celebrate the success of the Year of Sport Campaign. It contains information on all the activities that were part of campaign including contacts for clubs, classes and courses across Durham along with information on exercise, health and well being that you can do as part of your everyday routine.
So come on - get fit, stay active, feel great!
