September 2008 Cycling

Fancy a go at cycling but haven't got a bike? Need a specially adapted bike or a child tag along or caravan?

Then why not come and taste the cycling experience for FREE when our leisure cycling scheme launches at all six leisure centres at the beginning of September.

Perhaps you've not ridden recently and you're lacking confidence? Or looking for advice and somewhere to ride your bike safely?

Then we've got the perfect way to get you back into the saddle with a programme of organised rides from our leisure centres, starting on 7 September from Deerness. An experienced cycle expert will accompany you on the route and will give you tips on how to ride with maximum confidence, including best use of gears, cycle maintenance, and road safety.

Or if you fancy setting yourself a challenge?
Then why not enter the Durham Big Ride on Sunday 21 September. Because the Little Ride might not be enough of a challenge and the Big Ride may be too hard to handle, Active Durham has sponsored the introduction of a NEW Middle Ride. We've met you in the middle with this brand new 10 mile ride aimed at those new, or fairly new, to cycling.

This annual event attracted over 700 entries last year. It costs £15 per person, which will be reinvested back into cycling in Durham. To register, or for more details, contact 0191 301 8860 or visit www.durhambigride.co.uk. All who take part will receive a T-shirt, medal and goody bag.

There's an added bonus too, if you're one of the first 200 to register for the Middle Ride you'll receive five 'Revolution' spinning class vouchers to help with your training or to get you fair weather cyclists through the winter!

Leisure Cycling Scheme

Free hire of bikes and tag alongs will be available from all our leisure centres from September with adapted bikes for those with special needs available from Coxhoe.
